Illustrating the Story of Barts Heritage
I recently had the privilege of live illustrating a key moment for the Barts Heritage Advisory Panel as they reflected on the progress of their incredible restoration project at St Bartholomew’s Hospital and the sensitive programme of engagement alongside it. I’m working with specialists in evaluation Susan Potter Associates on this project, contributing to the visual storytelling of the Barts Heritage journey.

St Bartholomew’s Hospital (commonly known as Barts) has provided continuous healthcare for over 900 years, making it the oldest hospital in Britain still operating on its original site
The Sharing Historic Barts project focuses on the repair and conservation of the North Wing of St Bartholomew’s Hospital. This is accompanied by an engagement programme designed to enhance the wellbeing of hospital staff, patients, visitors and the wider public. This ensures that Barts’ legacy is preserved and remains relevant and impactful today.
As a live illustrator, I’m thrilled to be a part of these moments of reflection, visually mapping conversations that will shape the future of this remarkable institution.
I’m fascinated too about the stories that places hold. When we look beyond the bricks and mortar of a place all sorts of social histories emerge.
Live illustration is a powerful tool for tapping into new insights, encouraging reminiscence and revealing hidden histories.
